7 Signs You Might Have Eye Cataracts

7 Signs You Might Have Eye Cataracts

As you get older, you may experience the formation of cataracts in your eyes. The good news is that there are eye care treatments that can help improve your vision. One of them being cataract surgery. At Vision Source Castle Hills in San Antonio, our optometrists offer co-management of cataracts.

Signs That Indicate Cataracts

Cataracts are film-like substances that form in the eyes. They make it difficult to see correctly. If left untreated, loss of sight can occur. Many describe cataracts like looking at things through a dirty glass or window.

Here are seven indicators that you may have cataracts:

  1. Things start to look foggy, blurred, cloudy, or dim like something is blocking your view
  2. Reduced night vision
  3. You see halos around lights
  4. Eyes become sensitive to bright light and glare
  5. Colors seem to fade and/or become more yellow.
  6. Using brighter lights for reading
  7. Needing a stronger prescription for contact lenses or glasses

Treatment for Cataracts

If you have a minor case of cataracts, your eye doctor may suggest a new prescription for your eyeglasses or contacts. If your cataract is affecting your daily life, surgery is necessary. Cataract surgery is an outpatient procedure that is performed in an eye surgeon’s clinic, and we will help co-manage the procedure. During your surgery, your eye surgeon will remove the cataract from your eyes and replace the lens with an artificial one.

Cataract surgery is almost painless, and you can go home within a few hours. You will see your optometrist a day or two after surgery to check for signs of infections and that your eyes are properly healing.
